In 1999 The National Organization on Disabilities awarded first place recognition to the town of North Providence and the Board of Canvassers for making polling locations accessible to all voters. 

In 1995 North Providence served as the test community for the voting equipment we now use statewide.

INTERESTED IN BEING A POLL WORKER?

The North Providence Board of Canvassers is looking for individuals interested in serving as moderators, clerks or supervisors for the November 6, 2012 Presidential Election.  You must be at least 18 years old and registered to vote.

Work hours are 6:00 am to approximately 9:00 pm.  A 2-hour training class prior to Election Day is mandatory.

Moderators and clerks will be paid $125 for working on Election Day; Supervisors will be paid $100. All poll workers will be paid an additional $25 for attending class.

Interested persons should contact Laurence K. Flynn, Director by calling 232-0900, extension 243; or emailing bocdirector@northprovidenceri.gov or visiting the board of canvassers at Town Hall, Lower Level, 2000 Smith Street.

Deadline to apply is Wednesday, September 26th.

The Office of the Board of Canvassers is located on the lower level of town hall.  The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.

The mission of the Board of Canvassers is to maintain the highest standards of professionalism for the electoral process and voter registration records maintenance. 

The Board of Canvassers works in cooperation with The Rhode Island Board of Elections and The Office of the Secretary of State, Elections Division to protect the integrity of all elections.


Voter Registration

If you would like to register to vote you may visit the office, request that a form be mailed to you, or obtain a form by clicking the link at the bottom of this page.

The voter registration form is multi-purpose and may be used for address changes, name changes, and changes of party affiliation. 

You must be registered to vote for 30 days prior to voting in any primary or election as mandated by Rhode Island General Law § 17-1-3.  Party affiliation changes become effective 90 days after the change is filed with this office.
