North Providence Probate Court

This court has jurisdiction over the following types of case:
- Decedent's estates; this includes persons who have died with a Will
(testate) or those without one (intestate).
- Adult Limited Guardianships, either of the person, estate or both.
- Minor Guardianships, either of the person, estate or both.
- Adult Adoptions
- Name Changes
Every City or Town in this state has it's own probate court. Probate Court
is a court of law established by RIGL 8-9; the operating statute for Probate
is RIGL Title 33.
Probate court is held the first and third Monday of each month at 2:00 p.m.
in the Town Council Chambers, Town Hall, 2000 Smith Street, North Providence.
Local rules for probate procedures in the Town of North Providence state that
the use of state-provided forms is mandatory. These forms are available at the town
clerk's office or
on-line
from the Rhode Island Secretary of State's office.
Petition filing fees are $34.00
There is a $50.00 fee for all petitions that need to be advertised.
There is a 1% fee for personal property inventory filed.
