The North Providence Planning Department serves as staff to the
North Providence Planning Board, which is charged with formulating
and updating the Town’s Comprehensive Plan and the Town’s
5 year Capital Improvement Budget. The Planning Department also
assists the Board in reviewing and approving all subdivisions and
land development projects.
In conjunction with these tasks, the Planning Department is the
repository for all Zoning Maps, Zoning Board Decisions and zoning
regulations.
Property owners or potential property owners are also encouraged
to seek advice from the department as to the legal use of a property,
subdivision regulations and any land use questions. Maps concerning
Census Information, Flood Plain, and Zoning can be viewed in the
department.
As a densely populated suburban community, the Town of North Providence
has focused upon redevelopment and revitalization projects in order
to stabilize the tax base and promote economic growth. Most noteworthy
are the Centredale and Marieville Streetscape projects, which feature
period lighting, simulated brick sidewalks, street trees and benches.
The impact of these projects has been significant in these older
mill villages as the town attempts to attract more pedestrian and
commercial activity in these older urban centers. Similarly, through
private investment the village of Fruit Hill is experiencing the
same type of improvements. These improvements were also made possible
with the creation of Commercial Village Zoning District, which
regulated building styles and facades.
The Planning Department also oversees the Town’s Low Interest
Loan Programs that assist income eligible applicants make 1st time
home purchases, improve their existing property or improve their
small business. Applications and qualification information is readily
available.

Providence Planning Board of Review
Requirements
The following requirements must
be completed prior to the Planning
Board of Review processing your
application for hearing.

All
questions on the application
must be answered. The OWNER of
the property and the
APPLICANT/APPLICANTS must sign
the application. Please provide
us with a telephone number where
you can be reached.
-
You
must submit with your
application a 200ʼ radius map
with a typed list of abutting
owners (preferred three (3) sets
of mailing labels) with
addresses within the 200ʼ
radius, along with all building
and plot plans and a Class I
survey of your property if a
building or an addition is being
erected. On your list of
abutting lot owners, please list
the plat and lot number next to
their name. Please include the
applicant and owner on the
abutter's list.

Your
must submit twelve (12) copies
of each item. Application, 200'
radius map, list of abutters,
plans, etc. Please
note: Our office will send
out the certified mail, but you
must submit three (3) sets of
mailing labels for each abutter
and postage fee. (see below)

All
applications must be given to
the Planning Director at least
fifteen (15) days prior to the
hearing, for such advertising.
Notice shall be sent to the
applicant and to each owner of
property with 200ʼ of the
perimeter of the property, by
certified mail, return receipt
requested, of the time and place
of the hearing not less than ten
(10) days prior to the date of
the hearing. Please note our
office will send out the
certified mail, this office
requires three (3) sets of
labels for each abutter and
postage fee. (See below)

The
Planning Director must receive
the application and all
corresponding documents and your
application approved as to
completeness prior to filing
with the Planning Board.

All
applications will be presented
to the North Providence Planning
Board for compliance with the
Town's Comprehensive Plan at the
Planning Board's regularly
scheduled meeting, with occur on
the second Monday of the month.
The Planning Board does not
require the applicant to be
present, but encourages the
applicant to attend the Planning
Board meeting to explain the
nature of the request.

At
the time of filing of your
application, all fees must be
paid. A filing fee of $125.00,
plus $6.00 per abutter notified.
(Owner and applicant must be
included in the abutter's list).
The cost of your share of the ad
must be paid to the Town of
North Providence.

The
Planning Board of Review meets
the 2nd Monday of each month.

in the delay of your application
process.
